Piranhas Weekly News - Week of June 17

Dear Piranha Families,

Well done on a very full week of Piranha events! We had our first B Meet, rolled right into our Piranha-thon where we raised a whopping $22,000 dollars(!), held some competitive backyard games, and celebrated our first WIN of the season in our first dual meet against some tough competition. A special shout-out to our 13-14 girls medley relay team (Emerson Mancari, Alexandria Lee, CC Corbett, and Amelia Young) for setting a new team record with a time of 1:04.42. Congrats, Piranhas!

Note From Our Coaches

Coaches faced challenges at meets this week trying to find swimmers to give feedback and get them to their events. This is because many swimmers were not in the team area, but talking to parents on deck and in the stands. Swimmers need to stay in the team areas and should inform coaches if they need to grab food or use the bathroom. Parents, please wait until after the meet to talk to your swimmers.

Practice Notes

We have started our morning session practices. This means we only practice mornings, Monday through Friday (no more afternoons).  Please check the schedule to know what time your swimmer needs to be on deck.

Drop swimmers at the back gate. Parents who stay can sit under the party areas but must stay off the pool deck. Additionally, the playground, baby pool, and basketball court are off-limits to parents, swimmers, and siblings during practice. We cannot use any of the facilities inside the gate when the pool is not open to the general membership.

Wednesday's Wacky Practice theme is NEON. Bring your neon swim or pool gear and let's light up the pool!

Swimmers of the Week

Each week, we recognize swimmers who not only work hard at practice, but exhibit good sportsmanship, positive attitudes, and teamwork. Congratulations to our standout swimmers over the past two weeks:

Week One: Coco Celentano (8U girls) and Jack Haines (9-10 boys)

Week Two: Maddie Haines (11-12 girls) and Daniel Lee (9-10 boys)

Keep up the fantastic work, everyone!

On the Calendar This Week

Monday: We are headed to Arlington Forest Club for our B meet Monday. It is located at 5401 N Carlin Springs Road Arlington, VA 22203. This meet will be Outta this World, especially if we all dress the part! We can't wait to see what outerspace paraphernalia you all have lying around at home. See Amanda Hungerford's email for more details.

Friday: Pep Rally with a tie-dye theme! No need to bring anything but your swimmer. All supplies will be provided.

Saturday: We will host our first HOME A meet against Canterbury Woods. Let's give them an energetic and warm welcome! Meet sheet information will be sent Thursday night. Volunteer jobs will open Thursday night, so please sign up if your swimmer is participating.

Meet Availability

A number of swimmers did not put in their availability for NVSL A meets. Please double-check that you have entered the availability correctly. If there are any changes, message Karen Corbett with your corrected dates.

Private Coaching

Looking for some private coaching? Does your swimmer need to work on something specific? Some of our coaches offer private sessions. Fees and times are arranged directly with the coach and are open to all pool members. For more information, check details here: Private Coaching and Private Swim Lessons.

Let's keep up the momentum and have another fantastic week!
