Piranhas Weekly News - Week of 5/28
Dear Parklawn Swim Team Families,
It has been an exciting start to the season with a great first few days of practice. It’s so refreshing to see everyone back in the pool, even if it's a little chilly! It’s going to be a great season and we can’t wait to see our swimmers grow and excel.
Of course, we understand that life happens and sometimes your swimmers will have conflicts and may need to miss practice. Don’t fret! If your swimmer needs to miss a day here or there, no need to notify us. However, if your swimmer will be out for camp, travel, or long-time illness, please do reach out.
Important: Mark Your Availability for Upcoming Events
The team calendar is open for each swimmer to mark his or her availability for Time Trials, A meets, and Relay Carnival (click “Meet Entry” and follow the prompts). Time Trials availability is due by June 3rd at 8 am. Currently, half the team has put their availability in. Parents must volunteer for Time Trials, so please sign up for a job. Thank you to the families who have already done so.
A Meet and Relay Carnival availabilities are due on June 10th at 8 am.
Practice Notes For Your Calendar
Please take note of the following practice updates:
- No practice on Monday, May 29th due to Memorial Day
- No practice on Friday, June 2nd due to Swim Team Picture Day (see details below)
Team Picture Day
Our swim team photo will take place at Parklawn Pool this Friday, June 2nd. Your swimmer needs their team shirt and swimsuit. You will also have the option to take individual photos.
Timing is as follows:
- Individual photos for last name A-M – 4 p.m.
- Individual photos for last name N-Z – 5 p.m.
- Team photo – arrive on deck at 5:45 p.m. for 6 p.m. lineup.
Briar Creek will be our photographer again this year. See the attached flier for details on how to order photos.
We need two volunteers to help make this a success! Your job will be to write individual names on a white board for photos. Very easy! Please email Karen Corbett if you can help out.
Dive team photos are on Sunday, June 4th.
Stroke Clinic with Coach Kevin
Mark your calendars! Stroke clinics with Coach Kevin are back again this summer. These optional clinics are geared toward 9&up swimmers who are legal in all four strokes and who are looking to fine-tune elements of their strokes. You must receive approval by a coach to attend. Please do not send a swimmer who does not want to be there.
Session 1 - Streamlines, Underwaters, and Breakouts
This one-hour session will cover technique for effective streamlines, underwater kicks, and breakouts. Coach Kevin will hold two of these one-hour sessions the morning of June 4th.
Email [email protected] for more details. Future sessions will cover starts and breakouts and IM transitions.
Meet the Coaches!
We asked our coaches about their favorite music, snack bar snacks, and swim strokes! Head over to our Facebook page and check out the featured posts to learn a little bit more about our 2023 Coaching Staff.
Piranha-thon
By now, you should have received an email from Andrea Cordero about our team fundraiser. The Coaches will be talking to swimmers on deck this week about this fun team building and fundraising event.
