Piranhas Weekly News - Week of July 6

Good evening, Piranha families -

We’re not saying this week had everything… but it kind of did: relays, backyard games, fireworks, senior celebrations, fierce races, and even a few legendary senior splash landings. Despite the packed schedule, our swimmers showed up big. We had 61 new personal bests and 8 new Piranha records at Saturday’s A meet against Fox Hunt!

Some highlights from the week:

  • Relay Carnival magic: Five new team records, four relays heading to All-Stars, and roughly 40 team tattoos still holding strong...
  • Senior Day: Huge thanks to Helen Harris for organizing a beautiful celebration of our seniors. Special mention to Joey Liller and Stephanie Liller for an amazing senior splash combo!
  • A Meet vs. Fox Hunt: We faced the fastest team in the division and brought the speed. From Addie Celentano's clutch butterfly win against Fox Hunt’s own super-speedy flyer to multiple Parklawn sweeps (we see you Coco Celentano, Marta Morris and Katherine Hungerford with that 8U 25 fly sweep!), our team spirit and speed were unstoppable.
  • The all-senior relay of Camila Perez, Tess Galway, Katie Thomason, and Ella Galway brought cheers and excitement, beating Fox Hunt by 7 seconds!

This team continues to amaze ... on the blocks, off the blocks, and everywhere in between. Let’s keep the energy up for the final stretch!

Here’s what you need to know about the week ahead.

Practice Notes

  • To celebrate a lot of personal bests and great sportsmanship, we will have donuts at Wednesday’s practice.
  • There are only two weeks of summer swim practice left - let’s make them count!

Monday’s B Meet @ Chesterbrook – Think Pink!

We’re heading to Chesterbrook (1812 Kirby Rd, McLean, VA 22101) for Monday night’s B Meet. The theme is Flamingo Pink! Break out your pink Piranha caps, flamingo flair, and all the rosy vibes. See the email from Amanda Hungerford with more details.

Final Friday Night Social: Lip Sync Battle!

It’s the grand finale of our Friday night socials and a team favorite – the Piranha Lip Sync Battle!

Swimmers will compete by age group and gender (8U girls, 8U boys, 9–10 girls, etc.), picking a song, creating a routine, and going all in with costumes and choreography.

Song choices are due by THIS WEDNESDAY at 5 PM! No more than 2 minutes per song. Submit songs to Lara Macdonald.

This event is always a highlight, but it needs plenty of parent support, especially for our 12 & under groups. Grab a friend and help wrangle, organize, and cheer on the next generation of Piranha performers!

Divisionals

Divisional entries are now open. This is not a team-scored meet; swimmers choose their events in order of preference and can swim a total of two events (free, back, breast, fly, or IM). Our team sends the top two swimmers in each event.

Click on the event in Swimtopia and read the instructions carefully. There are details on how to list your event preferences. Entries will close Saturday, July 12th.

That’s all, Piranhas! See you on deck.
