Piranhas Weekly News - Week of June 29

Dear Piranhas Families:

Another week down, and just like that, we’ve hit the midway point of the season. But we’re not slowing down.

This week’s A Meet brought us cooler temps, shallow water, and cloudy skies. But true to form, the Piranhas thrived in tough conditions and brought home another win! (Another awesome win? That post-meet Greek food. Thank you for the recommendation, Erin Sonn.)

Some standout moments:

  • Charlotte Hill, Alex Lee, and Cami Sonn swept their 50 breast race in style.
  • Evelyn Lundell brought the sparkle - literally with her goggles - and backed it up with an awesome swim and attitude.
  • Danny Murphy edged out Ravensworth to take first place in the 8U 25 free, and Kenzie Corbett did the same in a nail-biter finish in the 11-12 50 free.
  • Ori Garcia-Johnson, Gus Garrison, Evelyn Lundell, Sara Viquez, and Adely Muth all swam in their first A Meet!

And… the Piranhas WON the Todd Potts IM Carnival on Sunday! Plus, Noah Popp lowered his own IM team record to a smoking 1:01.92! Huge congrats to the whole team. What a way to close the week.

Let’s keep the energy high and the team spirit strong. Onward, Piranhas!

Reminder - No B Meet Tomorrow

Take the evening off and get some rest.

Swimmers of the Week and Lightning Awards

Congratulations to Leah Belz and Parker Goldwater for being recognized as swimmers of the week! And Oliver Van Niekerk and Elsa Morris are this week's lightning award winners for their impressive time drops (21.55% in free for Oliver, and 20.97% in back for Elsa!)

Division 6 Relay Carnival – This Wednesday!

The Relay Carnival roster was sent out this evening. If you're swimming, please make sure to attend practice at Parklawn on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Coaches will be working on fine-tuning exchanges. Detailed meet info and timelines will be shared on Monday.

Practice Notes for the Week Ahead

We’ve got a tough A Meet on July 5th, so please try to attend as many practices as you can this week to keep us sharp and strong in the water.

Relay Carnival swimmers: Be sure to attend practice Tuesday and Wednesday to prep with your relay teams.

No Practice on Friday, July 4. Enjoy the holiday!

Saturday’s A Meet vs. Fox Hunt

We’re heading into the back half of the season, and this week’s A Meet vs. Fox Hunt is a big one. Fox Hunt is one of the toughest teams in our division, so let’s show up ready to race and represent Parklawn with heart. We will be at HOME!

This is also our Senior Meet, where we take a moment to celebrate and honor our incredible seniors. We encourage you to show these swimmers just how much they mean to our Piranha family.

Meet entries will be sent out Thursday evening.

13 & Over Progressive Dinner

The annual 13 & Over Progressive Dinner is set for Friday, July 12. Big thanks to Jenness Simler and Pam Townsend for organizing what’s sure to be another great night.

The RSVP link is now live on the Swimtopia calendar. Please let us know if your swimmer will attend. More details (including host homes and timing) coming soon!

Friendly PSA from Parklawn Pool: No Glass, Please!

Just a quick (and important!) reminder from our awesome Parklawn pool staff: please don’t bring glass to the pool. If it breaks and gets in the pool, we’re talking full pool cleaning and zero swim time for anyone. Yikes. If you see glass, kindly ask folks to tuck it away. Thanks for helping us all stay safe.

That’s all for now, Piranhas! See you on the pool deck.
