Dear Piranha Families -

It’s been a scorcher of a week, but our Piranhas stayed hydrated and rallied for some exciting events last week.

We pulled off a narrow win against some fast competition from the Canterbury Woods C-Serpents! The spirited banner entrance, organized and led by our 15-18s, was epic and sure to be a new tradition. Camila Perez Fernandez hit a swim milestone with her first record breaking swim as our girls’ mixed-age relay team (Charlotte Hill, Rebecca Hungerford, Emerson Mancari, and Camila Perez Fernandez) set a new team record with a time of 2:10.11. And Joey Liller was unofficially named the most sigma Piranha on the team.

Our tie-dye pep rally saw some excellent artistry from our swimmers and superb organizational skills from Julianne Sobral. (Also, we don’t know who needs to hear this, but consider this your friendly reminder that there may be a t-shirt in a ziplock bag somewhere in your house).

We also saw stellar time drops this week. There were so many personal bests at our B Meet on Monday. This week, William Stumpf (8U boys) had a 21.7% drop in his freestyle time, and Evelyn Lundell (8U girls) saw a 14.23% drop in her backstroke time. They are our Lightning Award winners for the week. Our Swimmers of the Week are Christian Olawoye (11-12 boys) and Lucia Viquez (11-12 girls) for their excellent sportsmanship and coachability. Way to go swimmers!

Monday Night is Our First Home B Meet

The theme for Monday’s meet is FLAMINGOS so don your pink swim caps, pink t-shirts, and bring your lawn ornaments. Rumor has it that there are snack bar coupons on the line for those who go all out. Come hungry – our soon-to-be Michelin-rated Piranha Grill will be fired up.

See Amanda Hungerford’s email for more important meet notes. Parents, if your swimmer is in the second half of the meet, please stay to help reset the deck. It only takes minutes when we have lots of help.

Divisional Relay Carnival is This Wednesday

The Divisional Relay Carnival involves teams across our entire division going head-to-head in freestyle and medley relays. It’s an exciting and fast meet! Relay teams are selected by the coaches and will be announced Tuesday morning. It will be held at Canterbury Woods pool.

In order to swim on a relay team, swimmers must attend practice on Tuesday AND Wednesday morning this week. This is a rule listed in the Team Handbook. If your swimmer is not available those days or on Wednesday evening, please let Karen know asap.

Wednesday Night Ice Cream!

After Relay Carnival ends, the entire team is invited to meet at Parklawn Pool for ice cream! This will happen at approximately 8:30 or 9pm. We will communicate a more exact time via TeamSnap that evening.

Friday’s Pep Rally: Laser Tag

Back by popular demand, join us Friday night for laser tag pep rally! This is held out in the field by the Parklawn Pool. Swimmers will compete in age groups for about 30 minutes of battle time per group. Additional details regarding times will be sent later this week.

Saturday’s A Meet

We have another home A meet this Saturday against Rolling Hills. The theme for this meet is TIE DYE, so wash all those shirts you made last week and get ready to represent the team. Please make sure your availability is correct for this meet. If your availability has changed please let Karen know immediately.

Practice Notes from Our Coaches

Wacky Wednesday will be on THURSDAY this week (so wacky!!). Bring a long-sleeve shirt to practice. However, we will have donuts at Wednesday’s practice this week!

Coaches would also like to remind swimmers to bring their equipment and water bottles every day, and please wear sunscreen. Label all gear with your swimmer’s name using a black sharpie.

Coming Up: Todd Potts Individual Medley Carnival

The Todd Potts Individual Medley (IM) Carnival is an invitational meet that features only IM events. This year’s IM Carnival will be held Sunday, July 14th at Forest Hollow Swim Club. The event is now open for swimmers to sign up and declare their interest in swimming at this meet. To sign up you must have a legal time in IM or all four strokes (job sign ups will open closer to the event).

Our team can take a limited number of swimmers. Coaches are usually able to select several swimmers in each age group, based on IM times. There is still time to qualify for this meet by swimming the IM event at a B Meet. The IM is one of the hardest events in summer swim and a great accomplishment. This meet is scored between the six teams competing. Last year, the Piranhas won the IM Carnival!
