Piranhas Weekly News - Week of June 2
Dear Piranhas Families,
Here we go week two! This week, we have a full set of practices, our first Friday night gathering, and Time Trials on Saturday! A special thanks to Lara Macdonald for organizing the fantastic cake bake competition — another one for the Parklawn history books! The creativity and effort put into the cakes were truly impressive, but it was the 13-14 boys group that came out on top. It was wonderful to see the team come together to kick off the season.
Please remember to indicate your A Meet availability - this closes on Saturday. Also, remember to mark your calendars for the Piranha-thon on June 11. Details went out via email from Andrea Cordero and Rebecca Cervoni last week.
Below is what you need to know for the week ahead.
Practice Notes
Our coaches have asked that swimmers please bring water bottles and fins this week. On Wednesday, bring an old Parklawn Piranhas t-shirt (or any old shirt that you don’t mind getting wet). Swimmers will swim in them for a Wacky Wednesday practice. If you’re feeling generous, throw in an extra shirt in your bag for a teammate to borrow in case they forget one.
Take Note: Friday is Different This Week
There is no swim practice on Friday – instead, we have two fun events: Picture Day and Big Piranha/Little Piranha buddy assignments. Please arrive at 4:45 pm.
Picture Day
Swimmers should wear their team shirts and swimsuits for the team photo. Our photographer will also be available to take individual and sibling swimmer photos. A link will be sent later with information on how to order photo packages.
Big Piranha/Little Piranha Buddy Program
Our Big Piranha and Little Piranha buddy program pairs younger and older swimmers together for the season. It is a fantastic way for our younger swimmers to have an older swimmer to look up to, and for our older swimmers to have someone younger to look out for throughout the season. It’s always a highlight for all of our swimmers! These pairings will be announced Friday where they will create posters with their partners for Time Trials.
Time Trials
Time Trials are Saturday!! We’re all eager to see the results everyone has been wondering about: how many swimmers will wear green caps and how many will wear pink! Our theme is Rock and Roll, so come ready to swim fast and jam out in your rock and roll gear.
Drop your swimmers off at the back gate. Make sure your swimmer is prepared. Here’s a helpful checklist (and remember to label all gear):
- team suit and cap
- goggles
- sunscreen
- two towels
- extra cap and goggles
- water bottle
- snacks
Please let the team reps know if you cannot attend.
Remember we have a no electronics policy that will be enforced. It’s a long day, especially for our younger swimmers, so please bring cards, books, and your team spirit.
Parents who are volunteering should enter through the front gate and report to the sign in desk to be marked present for your job. If you signed up to be a timer, remember timers are required to wear a white shirt and navy bottoms as per the NVSL meet standard.
Private Coaching
Looking for some private coaching? Does your swimmer need to work on something specific? Some of our coaches offer private coaching. Fees and times are worked out with the coach and are open to all pool members. Private Coaching and Private Swim Lessons
Need to miss a practice?
No worries, and no need to notify a coach. You only need to notify us if you will be out of practice for a week or if you plan to miss a meet. If you’re looking for a workout on days when you will miss a practice, check out this page: On Your Own Swim Workouts
Senior Scholarships Available
Attention seniors! The NVSL Scholarship application is now open. This is a fantastic opportunity to earn financial support for college. The scholarship recognizes swimmers who have shown exceptional dedication, leadership, and sportsmanship. Applications are due by June 10th at 10 pm. Don’t miss out on this chance to be acknowledged for your hard work and contributions to the team. Application

Looking for NVSL gear? This is great gear for officials or those who want NVSL branded options. NVSL now has a site for easy purchase: https://shopumall.com/collections/nvsl
Be Kind to our Neighbors
Represent the Piranhas well! Please do not speed through the Parklawn Neighborhood or roll through stop signs. Drive slowly when entering or exiting the pool driveway and be mindful of members walking to the pool.
Thanks for a great first week! Let’s go week two!
