Piranhas Weekly News - Week of 7/9

Dear Piranhas Families -

Wow! What an exciting weekend of swimming. We are so proud of our Piranhas for bringing home FIRST PLACE in the 2023 Todd Potts IM Carnival, a WIN against Walden Glen on Saturday, and - most importantly - some epic and amazing Lip Sync Battle performances that will undoubtedly go down in Parklawn history.

Below are details for the week ahead and some recaps for your enjoyment.

Important Schedule Notes for This Week

  • Monday’s B Meet is at Annandale Swim and Tennis Club. The theme is Mardi Gras. See Amanda Hungerford's email for details.
  • On Wednesday, July 12 from 1 to 3pm we will have a team outing at Bowlero in Annandale. This is a family coordinated event, so grab your swim pals and make a plan to meet there. Parents must supervise their kids.
  • Friday’s pep rally is the much-anticipated Laser Tag! Come see the Parklawn field transform into a fierce battle ground. Groups typically participate by age groups during designated time slots. Look for more details from Lara Macdonald.
  • Saturday, July 15 is our last A Meet at Sully Station. We will have a team lunch near Sully Station immediately following the meet. Place TBD (and Coach Carmen is picking!).
  • Sunday, July 16 is our Viking Dinner for our 12 and Under age group at Parklawn Pool. Plan to join for an exciting themed dinner with raft races! Check out last year’s epic races in this video.

Cheer for Our 4 Piranhas All-Star Relay Teams

On Wednesday, our four relay teams will compete at the NVSL All-Star Relays. You can cheer them on via live stream available on the NVSL Facebook Page.

Save The Date: End of Season Banquet

We are looking forward to celebrating the season at our annual team banquet. This year’s banquet will be Sunday, July 23 from 6 - 8:30 p.m. at Glasgow Middle School.

The awards banquet is a special time for us to formally celebrate the successes of each of our Piranhas and recognize all of the hard work that contributes to a wonderful season. Dinner will be served, the awards will be aplenty, and the slideshow will be epic!

An Evite will be sent with more details. Please make sure to RSVP.

Show Your Support - Give to the Piranha Power Boosters Club

If your Piranhas have loved this season and grown as a swimmer, please consider showing your support for the swim team by making a generous donation to the Piranha Power Boosters Club. Your support helps us purchase items like lane lines, kick boards, and flags. It helps us bring the fun with gear like the Sno-Cone Machine! It helps us celebrate our team with champion banners.

The boosters have four levels of membership and members will be recognized at the upcoming banquet!

  • Bronze Level — $25 to $99
  • Silver Level — $100 to $249
  • Gold Level — $250 to $999
  • Platinum Level — $1,000 and above
  • Alumni Members — $35

Benefits of membership are on the Parklawn Piranhas Swim and Dive Team's website.

Congratulations to our Piranhas!

For the first time in Parklawn history, our Piranhas took home the first place title at the annual Todd Potts IM Carnival. 60 Piranhas competed at the meet, each swimming individual medley and earning points for placement. The team with the highest points wins! Congratulations to our Piranhas!

Bringing Home the WIN versus Walden Glen

Our Piranhas brought the heat in a scorcher of a meet (literally…it was very hot) winning 247 to 173. Highlights of the meet included Parklawn sweeps in Girls 9-10 Back (Delaney Owings, Danelea Shea, and Lauren Talarico) and in Girls 13-14 Fly (Cailyn Corbett, Lucy Oliphant, and McCauley Masley).

In a close relay match up, the 9-10 Girls went head-to-head with WG and Sophia Nye pulled ahead in the last leg for the win. We loved watching our 15-18 Boys battle it out against the WG team in the medley relay, taking the win after an impressive last leg. And the meet showcased the depth of our team’s talent with several exhibition relays!

Lip Sync Battle Winners!

Congratulations to our 9-10 Boys for winning the lip sync battle with their epic rendition of Johnny B. Goode. A special shout out to the star of the show, Jonny Boynton.

Stroke Clinic with Coach Kevin

On Sunday, July 16, Coach Kevin will hold another stroke clinic focused on starts, underwaters, and turns. Sign up here.

Don’t Miss Pulled Pork at the Grill - July 17

Mark your calendars and come hungry – Josh’s Famous Pulled Pork will be on the menu at the Piranha Grill during our last B Meet of the Season on Monday, July 17th.

Only two more weeks left in the season! We’ve got this, Piranhas!
