Piranhas Weekly News - Week of 7/2
Dear Piranhas Families –
What a week it has been! We hosted a successful B Meet with Forest Hollow on Monday night and our Piranhas clocked many new personal bests. Our relay teams had a solid performance at the Division 9 Relay Carnival Wednesday evening - we’re sending four relay teams to the NVSL All Star Relay meet later this month!
Friday’s pep rally was a blast with silliness, intense competition, and old-fashioned backyard game fun.
Saturday’s A Meet at Arlington Forest kept us on the edge of our seats until the very last relay. Our Piranhas emerged victorious with a nail-biting final score of 213 to 207. Thank you to Joy Hill for organizing a team lunch at District Taco to celebrate. Go team!
We’re now halfway through the season. Let’s carry this momentum into the upcoming weeks!
Here are a few brief updates and some recaps from our recent events.
Important Schedule Notes for This Week
- No B Meet this week.
- No Practice on Tuesday, July 4 due to Independence Day (but check the Parklawn Pool Fourth of July schedule – there are amazing activities at the pool all throughout the day!)
- The Wednesday, July 5 team movie outing is canceled because we haven’t been able to find a parent volunteer to organize.
- Parklawn Pool will host raft night on Wednesday, July 5 starting at 7:15pm. BYOR - bring your own raft!
- July 8 is our last HOME meet versus Walden Glen. Meet sheets will come out on Thursday and we hope all of our Piranhas will attend to cheer with the team! The theme is Pirates! Ahoy mateys!
- Sunday, July 9 is the Todd Potts IM Carnival. Mark your swimmer’s interest in this event on the calendar by COB Monday. We pay entry fees for this event. Please do not sign up if your swimmer will scratch. Swimmers will be notified this week if they are selected to swim.
Friday Pep Rally - Lip Sync/Karaoke!
It’s time for a team favorite – the annual lip sync/karaoke battle! For this pep rally, age groups come up with a song and routine (complete with costumes!) and perform on the famous Parklawn Grassy Stage. The 2023 Lip Sync Battle Winner will be declared at the end of the night. Will the 9-10 girls continue their reign?? Will the 15-18 boys show up in wigs or speedos?? What kind of killer dance routine will Rory Crider, Angie Kaminsky, and Emma Hill come up with this year?? Only time will tell! See video footage from last year’s battle here.
Important: We need parents to step up and help our younger age groups organize themselves. This is a very fun volunteer gig to do with a friend. So grab your pal and help our swimmers shine.

Highlights from A Meet versus Arlington Forest
What a speedy and electrifying meet against Arlington Forest! Team energy was through the roof as our swimmers gave it all in a meet where every race counted!
Addie Celentano fought hard to pull off a thrilling first place finish, edging out Arlington Forest 19.28 to 19.48 in the girls 8U Freestyle. We watched Team Noah (Noah Popp and Noah Crozier) as they came in first and second in the 15-18 Boys Freestyle. Jack McGrorey pulled ahead in the last 25 of his breaststroke to take 2nd place, earning valuable points for our team in a close meet. The 11-12 girls breaststroke team (Alex Lee, Charlotte Hill, and Amelia Young) brought in an impressive sweep, finishing well ahead of the Arlington Forest Tigers.
The meet was within 1 point heading into relays and we stayed on the edge of our seats as the relay finishes jumped back and forth between Parklawn and Arlington Forest. It was our Piranhas Boys and Girls Mixed Age Relay Teams who brought it home, clinching the victory!
Mini Meet Highlights
