Piranhas Weekly News - Week of 6/25
Dear Piranhas Families -
This week brought excitement and challenges as we navigated stormy and unpredictable weather together. Our B Meet required patience from swimmers. Our coaches worked hard to predict the weather and make calls regarding practices at least 30 minutes in advance. We understand that parents may need more time to plan. Clear communication is a goal of ours, and we commit to doing our best to provide clear and speedy messages.
Right now, the best way to keep up with last-minute updates is TeamSnap. We encourage you to have push notifications turned on so you receive alerts right away.
Know that we always support parents choosing to keep their swimmers home from practices in the event of inclement weather.
We have an exciting and busy week ahead! Below are highlights from our recent meets and details about our many upcoming events.
Celebrating a WIN against Villa Aquatic
Our meet theme was “Western” and we rode into victory with our first win of the season, triumphing with an impressive score of 248 to 172.
The meet had some very exciting moments, starting with Emma Hill’s chill-inducing rendition of the national anthem, Calvin Oliphant’s speedy backstroke for a first place finish from Lane 5, and Indy Owing’s race to the finish in a breaststroke face-off that ended in a difference of .03 seconds. We had eight PLP sweeps, where Piranhas placed first, second, and third in the events. See photos of those events here.
We had several Piranhas “swim ups” (CC Corbett, Alina Kinder, Emerson Mancari, Connor Manegold, Cami Sonn - her second meet swimming up! -, Emmett Wiedemann, and Amelia Young).
We also had some last-minute substitutions - a special shout to Claire Gould, Connor Manegold, and Emmett Wiedemann for stepping up when the team needed them. That’s what teamwork is all about. We’re so proud of our Piranhas swimmers for the fantastic camaraderie and great swims. Go Team!

Record Breaking Feats!
Piranhas are making waves this season as they continue to shatter records across many events.
- At Monday’s meet at Dowden Terrace, Addy Celentano broke the team record for Girls 8u Fly with a time of 20.69.
- This Saturday, our boys mixed age relay team (Quade Corbett, Ezra Mancari, Danny Tedros, and Noah Popp) set a new team record with a time of 2:02.03.
Both are pictured below, along with our 11-12 girls medley relay (Emerson Mancari, Alina Kinder, CC Corbett, and Amelia Young) who set a new record last week.
B Meet Dowden Terrace Photos
Last week’s meet at Dowden Terrace was quite the adventure! In keeping with what has become a tradition for that meet, the thunder roared and rain poured, but our resilient Piranhas held their ground and swam fast.
Check out these photos from our team photographer, Jason Nye.
This Monday’s B Meet is at Home
Tomorrow's B meet will be at home as we host Forest Hollow. See the email from Amanda Hungerford for details.
Theme is Tie Dye! Embrace your groovy vibes (and don your newly made t-shirts)!
In the event that we get stormed out, IMers need not worry. We will hold a special event for timed IMs so all swimmers who need an IM time can get one. We will need parent volunteers to make this happen! Stay tuned for more information.
Note that there won’t be a B Meet the week of July 4, so if you’re jetting off on vacation, have a fantastic time.

Relay Carnival: This Wednesday
Wednesday night, we head to Villa Aquatic for Division 9 Relay Carnival. Here’s what you need to know:
- This a coach-selection meet. Swimmer selections will be announced late Monday night.
- Relay Carnival events include medley and freestyle relays across age groups.
- Swimmers selected must attend Tuesday and Wednesday practices this week with their relay group. If your swimmer does not attend these practices, they will not participate in Relay Carnival.
- We plan to meet at Parklawn Pool after the Relay Carnival to have ice cream as a team. All of the team is welcome. More details will come via TeamSnap.
- NVSL All-Star Relay will be held on July 12 at Hamlet Pool, should any of our teams qualify. Please make a note on your calendar.
Friday’s Pep Rally: Backyard Games
Join the team on Friday for a fun Pep Rally of backyard games like cornhole, giant Twister, and relay races. An email with signups for volunteers is coming. Getting involved is a great way to make friends on the team (and know people to share a table with at the pool).

Saturday’s A Meet Versus Arlington Forest
Our next A meet will be our first AWAY A meet. We will be swimming at Arlington Forest. The theme is Red, White, and Blue. Swimmer selections and details will be sent Thursday.
Parklawn Piranhas Mini Meet - Sunday, July 1st
We are thrilled to be holding our fantastic Piranhas Mini-Meet once again! This meet is open to our 10&U for competition. It is held just like a regular swim meet, but our 11&overs officiate the meet, serving as timers, officials, judges, and clerk of course.
We hope to have relays for the kids as well.
Please sign your swimmer up just as you would any other meet. 11&overs can sign up for the official job they would like to have.
Todd Potts IM Carnival - Sunday, July 9
The Todd Potts Individual Medley (IM) Carnival is right around the corner on Sunday July 9th. Parklawn has been invited back to this invitational meet.
Last year Parklawn placed second behind Dowden Terrace! Swimming slots are limited for each team. Swimmers must have an IM time or be legal in all four strokes to be considered.
Please select meet availability if your swimmer wants to be considered for the IM Carnival.
End of Season Banquet
We need a Banquet Chair and banquet committee members to plan the swim banquet. If you have an interest and talent in coordinating events, this volunteer position is for you! Roles include planning the program, ordering food, trophies, etc.
This is a beautiful event that allows us to celebrate our swimmers. They look forward to it every year. Please consider pitching in and helping out.
Keep Up Swim Skills Throughout The Year
Are your swimmers looking to maintain the hard work they have done over summer? Consider the many winter swim programs available in our region. Assessments for year round teams are happening now. Check out the options here.
Hope to see you tomorrow night!
