Piranhas Weekly News - Week of 6/11

Dear Piranhas Families -

Our time trials were a great success! The effort and excitement of the swimmers was on full display. Time trials provide us with a baseline for the times and technique for each swimmer, which enables our coaches to chart out a path for improvement throughout the season. Time trials also give us a practice run for hosting a meet, ensuring that we are well-prepared to host other teams. We appreciate the support of everyone who volunteered and helped to make the time trials a success.

We will need your support throughout the season too. Beyond meets, we count on your engagement with all the activities that make summer swim fun. With school nearing its end, we hope parents can step up to make social events a success. Lara MacDonald will be holding informational sessions on June 13th and 15th from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. by the pergolas at the pool. Lara will explain how you can support the social events, the different ways to contribute, and how easy it all is.

Here are some important details for the week ahead.

Details for the B Meet on Monday Night

Details for tomorrow night’s B Meet (at Parklawn) are available here. The theme for the meet is Rockstar, so let’s see those so let's see those crazy hat, wigs, and glasses! Please reach out to B Meet Representative, Amanda Hungerford, with any questions.

Note that B Meet entries are always due by 3pm the Saturday before the meet. Refer to the rules for events your swimmer is eligible to swim (see question 6 in the Team Handbook). If your child is swimming, you must volunteer to work the meet.

Cake Bake Results Are In!

Congratulations to our Cake Bake winners, the 9-10 girls, for their cake "A Wave of Sugar"! We also applaud the 15-18 boys for making their own cake from scratch, though whoever thought of putting garlic salt and onion powder in red velvet cake has a serious case of kitchen confusion. With much appreciation to Lara MacDonald for reimagining the format of our cake bake to great success. Thank you Lara!

Four New Team Records!

Three Piranhas took Time Trials by storm and smashed team records on Saturday! Noah Popp broke the 15-18 boys 50 Freestyle record set in 2019. Emerson Mancari broke the 11-12 girls 50 Backstroke and 50 Butterfly records set in 1988 and 1976. Alina Kinder broke the 11-12 girls 50 Breaststroke record set in 2012. You can see the new times on the team website.

Friday Pep Rally

The theme for our first pep rally on Friday night is Tie Dye! The best news? You don’t need to do anything to prep! You can just show up. 6pm at Parklawn Pool.

Our First A Meet is Saturday Versus Camelot

Our first A meet will be at home this Saturday versus Camelot! Swimmers will be notified by Thursday evening if they are selected to swim. Parents should sign up to volunteer for the meet if your child is swimming.

The meet theme is Hawaiian (we go all out! Check out last year’s Hawaiian themed meet here). We’ll have some Hawaiian gear on hand for the team. All swimmers are encouraged to put on their Hawaiian gear and attend the meet and cheer on the team, regardless of whether they are swimming or not.

Special Stroke Clinics with Coach Armi and Coach Kevin

Coach Kevin’s next stroke clinic will be on June 18. It will focus on IM/IM transitions for the upcoming IM Carnival. Slots are limited. You must sign-up using this link. Swimmers must have a legal IM time or be legal in all four strokes to attend.

Coach Armi clinics are back this year. These coach-recommended clinics are geared toward younger swimmers for stroke development. They are held early in the afternoon generally on Wednesdays and Thursdays. If you receive an email message invite from either Coach Armi or Karen Corbett, you have 24 hours to respond yes or the slot will be offered to another swimmer.

Friday Flow Yoga

Parklawn Piranhas sponsor eat.YOGA.drink invites you to the pool for an all-levels mindful movement class. The cost is $10 per person per session. Half of all proceeds will be donated to the Piranha Power Booster Club. Yoga is taught with love and laughs by Erin Sonn, M.Ed., E-RYT, owner of eat.YOGA.drink. and Piranha mom to Cami Sonn.

Photo Makeup Session

Please note that the makeup date for individual swim photos is Thursday, June 13th from 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 pm.

Before we go...

Take a look back at some moments from Time Trials, captured by our team photographer Jason Nye. Keep an eye out on Instagram for more to come.

We hope to see you all at the B Meet tomorrow!
