Our Winter Swim Program is Full, What are Your Options?

This year our winter swim program had an overwhelming response.  We filled quickly and had to start a waiting list. It looks like we will not be able to accommodate any more swimmers in our program but thankfully there are some area programs we would recommend.  It is important for kids to continue instruction during the other three seasons if you want your child to progress and not forget all that they learned during the summer season. The best advice we can give is do NOT rush the swimming process. It is better for a swimmer start at a lower level and receive good technique training, and advance through the levels. We want a lifetime swimmer, and not one that gets discouraged.  Otherwise, we see swimmers that have gaps in their skills and their technique that later need to be fixed. The swimmer was working hard to keep up with the other swimmers in the class and not focusing on the technique. Programs we recommend:

1. The Mighty Marlins.  https://www.teamunify.com/team/pvpm/page/team-information/audrey-moore-schedule. Solid stroke technique and development program and kids have the option to swim in mini-meets for 10U kids.

2. The St. James Splash Academy and the St. James Stroke Academy. You can sign up for 1 or 2 days a week for 4-weeks. We like this program because there are levels and a path for swimmers as they improve and flexibility.

3. FISH is a usaswimming team that also offers a winter conditioning program similar to Parklawn's on Saturday nights. You have to have been on a summer team to join this program.  https://www.teamunify.com/team/pvtf/page/winter-c...

4. The Swim Farm - practices at Arlington high school pools and has all kinds of options.  There is no meets as it is not a usaswimming club.  But they offer all kinds of levels from learn to swim, pre-developmental, developmental, and for those looking for technique work they offer a stroke clinic or a sprint clinic (designed for summer swimmers).   theswimfarm.com

5. The Alexandria Swim Academy.  This is an Alexandria City Program. A few of our swim team kids have come up through this program.  https://www.alexandriava.gov/Aquatics#AlexandriaSw...

6. Fairfax County Recreation has Swimming for Children and a Stroke Academy.  https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/reccenter/swim...

7. Arlington County Youth Swim classes.  https://www.arlingtonva.us/Government/Departments...

Swimming is not only a great sport and form of exercise, it is a life skill.  It is important for your child to grow into a strong and confident swimmer.  Please reach out if you have any quesions.
