Divisionals - Swimmer Preferences Due Monday Night
Yes, we know that it feels like A LOT of emails lately. It is that time of the season! We wanted to share some information about Divisionals which will be held this Saturday on July 23. If your swimmer wants to be considered for Divisionals, you must enter your swimmer’s entries on Swimtopia no later than Monday night immediately after the B-Meet.
Divisionals is a meet where the top swimmers across Division 11 compete. Each team in the Division sends 2 swimmers per event. The order of events is breast, fly, IM, free & back for this year’s meet. We are only permitted to seed 2 swimmers per event, which is less than an A-Meet. Our coaches seed the 2 fastest swimmers in each age group/gender/event to compete. At Divisionals, we have 2 heats for each stroke, plus IM. For each event, it is a total of 12 swimmers - 2 from each team. Swimmers are not allowed to swim up; they can only swim in their Age Group of the season.
It is an honor to have a slot in Divisionals, but it is a swimmer’s choice whether to swim this event. Times at Divisionals determine whether a swimmer advances to All Stars.
Parklawn may have the opportunity to enter additional swimmers if another team does not have enough swimmers to fill their 2 allocated slots. Open slots are then filled based on fastest times in the division (not just Parklawn). It is called the bid-in process, and that is something Frank & the Molifes handle at a meeting this week.
By Monday night, we need to know whether your swimmer would like to be considered for Divisionals. If so, you need to select the events they would like to swim. Just like a B-Meet, you need to go to Swimtopia enter the events you would like to swim. You can select up to 5 events.
- If your swimmer really doesn’t want to swim a stroke (like breast, fly or IM), do not select that event.
- It is important for us to know your swimmers' favorite strokes to swim. Use the note feature in Swimtopia to indicate your swimmer’s preferred strokes. Use a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being their preferred event. Most swimmers determine their preferred events based on their likelihood of finishing in the top of the division in that event. Some swimmers use the leader feature on the NVSL website to inform their selections: https://www.mynvsl.com/leaders
- There is not an IM event for 8Us; it is a 10U IM. So your 8U swimmer would be competing with 9/10s in this event.
- If your swimmer does not have a legal time in an event, we will not include your swimming in bidding process for that event.
- If your swimmer does not select any events by Monday night, we will assume that your swimmer does not want to be considered for Divisional seeding and we will mark them as unavailable.
